Aperture for the Calm Tech Institute
Project type
Digital product. UX, interface, and software design.
Date
2026
Aperture is a design tool we built for the Calm Tech Institute: the working instrument of its Calm Tech Certified designer program.
It carries a designer through the questions a space should be asked before anything is specified. Who is this room for. What should it do to them. How should it feel when you walk in, and how should it hold you an hour later. Working through the layers, air, light, temperature, sound, energy, safety, presence, the tool turns those answers into the intent every later decision has to defend.
We designed along side the Calm Tech team: the method it encodes, the interface, and the software itself, written in our studio, inside the kinds of rooms it's built to design. The language is deliberate, questions phrased the way a designer would ask a client, not the way a spec sheet would. The tool behaves the way we believe environments should: calm, clear, responsive, and quiet about its own machinery.
Design for the built environment now has a digital layer. This is ours.
