Malibu Home Technology Design
A house on this coast asks more of its technology than most.
We design the light, sound, air, controls, and other technology of Malibu homes as one system, built to hold up to salt air and bright water and to disappear into the architecture. From Point Dume to Carbon Beach, we design it, build it, and measure the result.

The ocean is part of every room.
So is everything it brings with it.
The light off the water moves all day and turns harsh by late afternoon. Salt air finds its way into equipment and fixtures that were never rated for it. The surf can be the sound you want in the bedroom or the one keeping you awake. A home here should be designed for all of it, on purpose, from the start.
A method built for how people actually live in a space.
We created the design method and the software that carries it out.
UX for Spaces is the method we developed to set human performance targets for sleep, focus, comfort, and gathering, room by room. Particle, our acoustics software, predicts how a room will sound before construction. Aperture, the design platform we built, is now used by the Calm Tech Institute.

Every room has a number to hit.
Light, glare, quiet, and air, measured instead of guessed.
We set targets for each space: how much glare reaches the sofa at 4 p.m., how quiet the primary bedroom stays with the windows open, how the light warms after sunset, how fresh the air stays in a closed-up house. Shading, lighting, acoustics, and ventilation are chosen to meet them, then verified once the home is finished.

Jimmy Powers, founder.
One person carrying the design, the acoustics, and the systems.
Jimmy has spent about 25 years designing and building the technology inside homes and buildings. He is a Recognized Design Partner of the Calm Tech Institute, a certified UX designer, an HAA-certified acoustic consultant, and a Crestron Certified Technology Architect. He created UX for Spaces, Particle, and Aperture. Blend is a licensed C-7 contractor and an authorized Control4 and Lutron dealer.
Built for the coast, and for being away from it.
The house keeps working whether you're home or not.
Shades track the sun so the furniture and art don't fade. The network reaches the guest house and the far end of the deck. If power or internet drops, the essentials come back on their own, and we can see the system remotely before you call. When you arrive, the house is already ready.

Every decision on paper before it's in the walls.
A written brief, coordinated drawings, and a measured result.
You get a plain-language brief for each space and drawings your architect and builder can build from, with every shade pocket, speaker, keypad, and equipment location placed. Equipment is specified for coastal conditions. After completion we measure, calibrate, and stay on to care for it.
Coastal homes reward early planning.
The right time is before the walls and glazing are set.
Glass sizes, shade pockets, equipment rooms with real ventilation, conduit for the long runs out to the water. These are easy to plan in design and expensive to retrofit on the coast. Bring us in while the plans can still move.

Your architect leads. We make the technology fit.
Clean lines and ocean views stay clean.
Malibu architecture is about the view and the light. We keep speakers, shades, and controls from competing with either, and coordinate early with your architect, builder, and lighting designer. We work across Malibu, from Broad Beach and the Colony to Serra Retreat and Point Dume.
Spaces we've shaped.
Our work runs from a 25,000 square foot Bel Air estate with forty audio zones on one keypad to a 54-seat private cinema in Westlake.
We built a creative campus in Miami around a Dolby Atmos studio, and run a Camarillo private club from a single interface. Nearby, we've completed residences in Topanga, Calabasas, and Brentwood, and we're based just over the hill in Agoura Hills.
Tell us about your Malibu home.
Bring your plans, or just an idea of how you want to live there.
Tell us where your project stands and how you want to live in the home. Plans are welcome, never required.
